GOALS
A new seed is blooming here on the web for members of the Maryland area to come together and share resources, ideas and plan their new coordinates in the future to come.
As a DIY-Bio community in Baltimore, we'll be organizing a series of lectures and workshops in sync with the education of our iGEM 2010 team, as education outreach and an opportunity for interested individuals to learn about safety precautions, equipment care and
protocols. We also hope to involve various individuals from the surrounding educational system and assist with the foundation of some communal lab space. We look to network with various biotechnology firms and equipment suppliers to jump start an environment for DIY-Bio.
I've put forth the challenge to come up with a dedicated core group of bio-adventurist/mad scientist types to challenge some of the world's top innovative minds and researchers in this new field via an international competition based out of MIT.
We met for a foundational meeting on March 8th, to an attendance of about 20 individuals prepared to find out more about what we have in mind. After about an hours discussion on various topics we ended with about 15 that had an interest in forming a DIY-community and about 10 that wanted to be involved one way or another in the launch of our iGEM 2010 team. Plans are underway to get registration taken care of, at which point we can continue to grow our team. In the meantime take a look at the links and primers so you can get an idea of what this is all about, and where you may wish to take it.
Hope to see you all again at our next arranged meeting.
Take Care and Control,
